Young Chi Mix Living in Kill Shelter Is Hopeful For a Brighter Future, If Time Permits
I could remember walking through the San Bernardino Animal Shelter (SBAS) and being struck by the sheer awful smells of the place. It is noisy, chaotic, loud, and sad. I wanted to leave as soon as I got in because my heart could not bare witnessing dog’s trapped in cages begging to get out. I felt for these dogs, but then realized why I was there. I was there to give a voice to the voiceless and instill hope, where there was none.
With my faith and confidence renewed, I set about looking for the hard to adopts and discovered a sweet pup by the name of Jimmy. Jimmy, also nicknamed ‘Jimmy Thang’ is only 3-months old, and is filled with an excitement you commonly don’t find with dogs at kill shelters. He is kind, warm, and can even give you a paw on command. Jimmy also like to play. Although the toys he has laying around in his kennel aren’t ideal, they keep him happy enough to keep his mind off of things.
The SBAC is not a place for any dog, let alone one just getting to start his journey in life like Jimmy. Although he is hopeful of a bright future, the Chihuahua mix with the shiny brown coat is on borrowed time. That’s because if he isn’t able to find a home within the coming weeks, unfortunately, he could lose his life. As cute as he is, the SBAC has to follow a strict protocol when it comes to freeing up valuable kennel space.
Like most city-funded shelters, the SBAC is grappling with serious overcrowding, and so even if they grow attached to dogs like Jimmy, it’s always business as usual. SpeakUP, if you or someone you know is interested in giving this precious pup the forever family he deserves, please contact the San Bernardino City Shelter at (909) 384-1304 and reference the shelter ID #A500354.
Additionally, please share this story on Facebook or Twitter, so we are closer to finding ‘Jimmy Thang’ a home. We have done it before, and can certainly do it again.
