Cruel Owner Surrenders Middle Aged Shepherd To Kill Shelter Because She Couldn’t “Walk Right”

In my opinion, no dog should ever be brought to a high kill shelter for whatever reason, especially when you consider the alternatives. Many rescue organizations exist for this very reason, and so in my view, laziness and a lack of love is the only real excuse a heartless owner can come up with. One dog owner who certainly didn’t get this memo is feeling the heat from volunteers at the notorious high kill Carson Animal Shelter in Gardena, California.

According to my source who works for the shelter and wishes to be unidentified, a burly looking man with the coldest expression on his face entered Carson with his dog named Captian, and immediately began griping. He explained to staff that Captain couldn’t ‘walk right’ anymore because of hip dysplasia, a condition common in shepherds as they age. The disorder is easily treated with medicine and physical therapy, and that isn’t what Captain’s owner wanted to do.

Instead, he dumped her at the Carson shelter to rid himself of the “problem” to save money, time, and the effort it would take to rehabilitate the 10-year-old Captain. Captain is obviously heartbroken, because, for the first time in her life, her future is uncertain. After a decade of loyalty, this middle-aged shepherd was left to fend for herself, in a shelter where most dogs who enter, never see the light of day.

A Petharbor listing for Captain reads,

“My name is Captain and I am described as a spayed female, black and brown German Shepherd Dog. The shelter thinks I am about 10 years old.”

If you or anyone you know is interested in given this precious pup the forever home she deserves, please contact the Los Angeles County Animal Control – Carson at (310) 523-9566 and reference the shelter ID #A5021742.

Additionally, please share this story on Facebook or Twitter, so we are closer to finding her a home. We have done it before, and can certainly do it again.
