3-Year-Old Shepherd Dumped at High Kill Shelter, Is Just Too Depressed To Sit Up Anymore

Visiting the Carson Animal Shelter in Gardena, California, is not a fun field trip to say and write the least. The overwhelming sense of hopelessness and desperation captures the soul and holds tight like nothing you might ever experience.

The chaos and confusion that dogs face there on a daily basis, is enough to make any human with a heart shed tears for the many trapped and voiceless who call Carson their new homes. The city-funded, cash-strapped facility is grappling with overcrowding and so tough decisions are made on a daily basis to maintain “population control.”

That means that dogs are often just given weeks, and sometimes even days to find forever homes or fosters, before they are brought to a back room, and put down. Sad indeed. One dog who can tell you all about the politics of Carson is a 3-year-old German shepherd by the name of Tony.

Tony is a sweet, charming pup who was dumped at the shelter by an owner who cared nothing for him anymore. Tony had to watch as the man who he gave three years of nothing but love and devotion, walk away so briskly, especially at the time he needed him the most.

Worst of all, his owner gave no reason, and so shelter staff are left scratching their heads at such a stunning betrayal.

Now the situation is critical for Tony, because if he doesn’t find a home soon, he will be another casualty of the Carson Shelter, something we can certainly help him avoid.

A Petharbor listing for Tony reads,

“My name is Tony and I am described as a male, tan and brown German Shepherd Dog. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years old.”

Tony has given up. In fact, according to a shelter representative, he is just too sad and depressed to sit up anymore. SpeakUP, if you or someone you know is interested in giving Tony the forever family he rightfully deserves, please contact the Los Angeles County Animal Control – Carson at (310) 523-9566 and reference the shelter ID #A5021790.

Additionally, please share this story on Facebook or Twitter, so we are closer to finding Tony a home. We have done it before and can certainly do it again.
