Young Pup Surrendered to Kill Shelter Wearing Her Favorite Sweater, Cries Before She Sleeps
When the end is near, you get that sinking feeling in your stomach, as if you know something terrible is about to happen to you. Nothing and no one can save you from the inevitable because the one person you thought had your back, betrayed you in stunning fashion. This isn’t the opening passage to a Charles Dickens novel or the beginning of a melodramatic film; rather it is the real life of a dog named Angel who just received shocking news, that would floor even the most emotionally resilient.
Angel, a 2-year-old pit bull pup was just placed on the “to be destroyed list,” by the bureaucracy that is the Animal Care and Control of New York City – Brooklyn (ACC). The cash-strapped, city-funded establishment notorious for their high kill rate and overcrowding gives dogs just weeks, and sometimes even days before they are brought to the back, and “put to sleep” as a volunteer who wished to remain anonymous told me. Simply put, euthanization is used as a form of “population control,” as the facility grapples with overcrowding. Sad indeed.
Angel was moved from her kennel and placed in a waiting area known in shelter parlance as “death row,” where she is being “prepped” for the unthinkable: death. Angel, of course, being intuitive and smart for her young age knows what’s going on. And so when the lights are turned off, and all the dogs in the shelter fall asleep, quiet, subtle weeping can be heard coming from her kennel space. Sadly, the only thing to catch her tears is the cold concrete slab which serves as her only solace from the pain, and rejection that comes with being an orphan.
SpeakUP!, we can change Angel’s future right this moment. If you or someone you know is interested in giving this precious pup the forever family she rightfully deserves, please contact the ACC-Brooklyn at (212) 788-4000 and reference the shelter ID #A1101525.
Additionally, please share this story on Facebook or Twitter, so we are closer to finding Angel a forever home. We have done it many times before and can certainly do it again.
