Out of Luck & Out of Time: Death Row Pup Cries As Her Execution Date is Set
Walking through the New York City Animal Care Center (ACC) in Brooklyn, New York, is like walking through a prison for dogs. The aura of hopelessness and the acrid smell of dogs who haven’t been bathed, or let alone cared for since they were surrendered is evident, as the shelter struggles to maintain “population control.”
In simpler terms, population control means that if a dog brought into the ACC can’t find a home within the coming weeks, and sometimes days, they are brought to the back room of the shelter where they are “humanely euthanized.”

For a 3-year-old dog named Ronda, her sentence was just handed down, and she was moved from her kennel to death row. Ronda seems to know what is at stake because staff says they could hear her crying as she was moved to the so-called “death row block” at the ACC. Ronda is the sweetest dog you might ever meet, and so it is a surprise to us all that she hasn’t left the confines a precarious place like the ACC. An anonymous volunteer who works for the shelter said of Ronda:
According to the volunteer, Ronda is scheduled to be put down on January 11, and so there is still time to rescue her. SpeakUP, if you or someone you know is interested in giving this precious pup the forever family she rightfully deserves, please contact the Brooklyn ACC at (212) 788-4000.
Additionally, please share this story on Facebook or Twitter so we are closer to finding Ronda a forever family. We have done it before and can certainly do it again.

“Oh Ronda! What a sweet, cuddly, gentle girl. I would bring her home myself if I could. Ronda is an absolute cuddle queen–on our walks, every time I bend down even for a second, she immediately puts her head on my lap and snuggles up. She far prefers affection to running around, and will check in with me all the time while we’re walking.”
