17 Year-Old Shepherd Living In Shelter For a Decade, Has Sadness Written On His Face
Think back to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, a year we as Americans can never forget. The fabled city of New Orleans was ravaged by water, strong winds, and gusts that claimed the lives of thousands. If you were lucky to escape the clutches of Hurricane Katrina, one of the deadliest storms on record, by now, your life has been rebuilt to what it was. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for a 17-year-old pup by the name of Dodger living at the North Fork Animal Welfare League in Peconic, New York.

Dodger has been waiting for a forever family for close to a decade. When he was brought in from the storm, he didn’t know he would face another one. For twelve long years, Dodger had to sit and witness dogs younger than him placed in homes with loving forever families, as he languished behind in pain.
A shelter staff member said of Dodger,
Dodger knows that shelter life, is not real life, and so sadness can be seen all over his face once you look at him. At his age, he should be enjoying the remaining days of his life to the full, then to be sitting at a shelter, crying himself to sleep.
If you or someone you know is interested in giving this precious pup the forever home he rightfully deserves, please contact the North Fork Animal Welfare League at 631.765.1811.
Additionally, please share this story on Facebook or Twitter so we can find Dodger a home.

“Dodger quickly became a staff favorite not only from his personality, but also because he walks excellent on a leash, and knows basic commands.”
