Adorable Puppy Surrendered to High Kill Shelter, Is Just Too Sad To Lift Up His Head Anymore
The next time you’re in the Miami, Florida area on vacation, visit the Miami-Dade Animal Services shelter (MDAS), if you are looking to make a difference in the life of an animal. Your mere presence in the facility alone will give hope to the hopeless. The high-kill, cash-strapped, city funded shelter is a last stop for many dogs and cats who were either picked up as strays, or dumped there by heartless owners too selfish to take care of their own pets.
Your presence alone will command the attention of every dog locked in their kennel cage desperate to get out. These animals aren’t looking for treats, toys, or affection. The matters are much more urgent as all animals are looking break out of the prison that is the temporary kennel space they reside in.
Unfortunate for most, that might never happen, because the MDAS gives animals who enter the facility weeks, and sometimes even days if they are at full capacity, to find homes before they are “humanely euthanized.” The shelter calls it a “population control measurement” to address the issue of “overcrowding.” Sad indeed.
For one 13- week-old puppy named Meringue, the chaos, noise, confusion and acrid smells of the MDAS is her new reality. After being surrendered to the shelter by a heartless breeder who told shelter staff she was “overflow from the litter.” At first, the gentle and loving Meringue tried to remain upbeat and positive in her kennel space.
However, as time wore one, she became less excited to greet patrons visiting her kennel. Sadly, this cloud of sadness has evolved to the extent that Meringue is just too sad to lift her head up and try anymore. Nobody wants Meringue for reasons unclear to the MDAS.
SpeakUP, we can change that. A kill shelter is no place for a young pup to live and get her start in life. If you or someone you know is interested in giving Meringue the forever family she rightfully deserves, please contact the Miami-Dade Animal Services at (305) 884-1101 and reference the shelter ID #A1846391.
Additionally, please share this story on Facebook or Twitter so we are closer to finding Meringue a forever family. We have done it before, and can certainly do it again.
