16 Year Old Senior Surrendered to Kill Shelter For Being “Useless,” Cries Before She Sleeps
The Miami-Dade Animal Services (MDAS) is not a place you want to visit unless you absolutely have to. The smells, noise, chaos and confusion dogs have to endure each day, is enough to make even the most emotionally resilient humans break down and cry. The cash-strapped, city-funded high kill shelter is not a place where hopes and dreams are made of to write and say the least. Dogs are given just a few weeks, and sometimes even days to find a home, before they are placed on death row, a sort of holding facility, where they are prepped to be “humanely euthanized.”

For a 16-year-old Pointer mix named Brandy, she is getting a crash course in what it means to be unwanted by an owner who cared nothing for her. According to my sources at the shelter, Brandy was surrendered to the shelter because she was “useless” by someone who refused to stick around to give a name. Sad indeed.
The effect of being placed in a kennel inside of a shelter that is as noisy and chaotic as the MDAS, has taken a severe toll on Brandy. When it’s lights out at the shelter, a period where the dogs trapped inside kennels go to sleep, Brandy can be heard crying quietly to herself, wondering what on earth she did to deserve such a fate. Instead of laying in a doggy bed, playing with treats, she makes a cold concrete slab the only solace for the tears that stream down her face.
A Petharbor listing for Brandy reads,
If you or someone you know is interested in giving Brandy the second chance she rightfully deserves, please contact the Miami-Dade Animal Services at (305) 884-1101 and reference the shelter ID #A0812176.
Additionally, please share this story on Facebook or Twitter so we are closer to finding Brandy a home. We have done it before and can certainly do it again.
