Despite Enduring Unimaginable Abuse Kind Pup Still Has a Forgiving Heart
In Burleson, Texas, a dog by name of Zena did everything to avoid any kind of human contact, and with good reason. The neglected pup, who was suffering from malnutrition, severe mange and riddled with the most painful sores all over her body, had all but given up on humans.
Her former owner, who could care less about her overall health and well-being, treated Zena-like nothing more than the trash they left out for sanitation to pick up every Tuesday morning. While they enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a nice cozy home, Zena was left all alone to fend for herself.
Zena had about had it with humans, and so when a good samaritan spotted her frail looking frame zig-zagging near an ally way, she fled faster than a gazelle chased by a lion. Soon after that sighting of Zena, an all-points bulletin was put out to locals that there was a dog on the loose in serious need.
Locals employed all the manpower they could get to create a dragnet, eventually cornering Zena. When she noticed that these particular, very caring humans were simply there to help and not heart her, she let her guard down and collapsed into the arms of rescuers. Zena’s days of homelessness have come to an end for good and It was time for the healing to begin.
Healing would begin with New York City-based Rescue Dogs Rock who had heard of Zena, and wanted to step up in a big way to help. Stacy Silverstein took to the rescue organizations Facebook page to post a series of heartbreaking photos depicted the extent of Zena’s condition. One Facebook user commented,
There is much good news to celebrate. Zena is receiving around the clock medical care to restore her health. With the right treatment, and of course lots of old fashion tender love and care, she is expected to survive her ordeal. Despite all she is going through, Zena is forgiving, warm, and lets everyone in. This is a testament to her character which is just one of many reasons why we should all root hard for her recovery.
We ask that you keep her in your thoughts and hearts as she recovers. If you or someone you know is interested in donating to her medical expenses, please visit Rescue Dogs Rock NYC’s donation page to help.
