14-Year-Old Senior Pup At Kill Shelter Whose Owner Promised He Would Return Has Given Up All Hope
For a senior pup named Jake, hope is all about fading after his owner betrayed him in stunning fashion. Jake was a lost dog who was brought to the Carson Animal Shelter in Gardena, California temporarily until his owner could be located.
Carson was in fact successful in locating his owner, who promised shelter staff over the phone that he was on the way to go and retrieve his “beloved pup.” As hours turned into days, several phone call were placed, but there was no answer. And so Jake, who by this time was starting to shut down emotionally, wasn’t going home after all. A shelter volunteer describes Jake as sweet, subdued, and very friendly with people and other dogs. Although he may be down and out because of his circumstances, he is the first to greet you when you approach his kennel space.
Jake is charming and polite and deserves a home fit for a dog who has nothing but love to give. At this time of year, the worst place for any dog to be is at a facility like Carson where most dogs who enter, never get out. The city-funded, cash-strapped shelter is grappling with overcrowding, and so when valuable kennel space needs to be freed, unlucky pups are brought to the back and placed on “death row.” From that period on, they have just days, sometimes even hours to live. Sad indeed.
SpeakUP! we can change that. If you or someone you know is interested in giving Jake the forever family he rightfully deserves, please contact the Los Angeles County Animal Services-Carson at 310.523.9566 and reference the shelter ID #A5020500.
Additionally, please share this story on Facebook or Twitter so we are closer to getting Jake a home. We have done it before and can certainly do it again!
