Heartbroken Pup In Kill Shelter Recently Lost Kennel Mate, Is Just Too Sad Waiting His 'TIME'

For Homer, the days are not worth living anymore, after he lost his kennel mate at the high kill Carson Animal Shelter in Gardena, California. Homer used to sit up, and anxiously wag his tail as patrons to the shelter would walk by and give him a nod, and then move on to other dogs.

This didn’t stop the 7-year-old poodle from continuing to try his hand at getting the attention he needed to break free from a cage that stole away the basic freedoms he once enjoyed. Keeping Homer emotionally positive was another older dog, who bunked with him in his kennel. The two relied on each other for support, playing with one another and sharing food, hoping to get through what was the darkest periods of their lives.

Sadly, one day, Homer’s kennel mate was awoken early in the morning, tied to a rope leash and was led away by a Carson staff member to a back room, known in shelter parlance as “death row.” According to a shelter volunteer who spoke to me on the condition of anonymity, Homer’s kennel mate was more than likely euthanized that morning, as she could no longer find a record of his whereabouts.

Since then, Homer has been a shadow of himself, barely lifting his head to eat, or drink water. When shelter patrons walk by this time, he is just too sad to lift his head up anymore. Instead, he makes the cold concrete slab that doubles as his bed, as the only solace from the pain and heartache he is experiencing inside.

A Pet harbor listing for Homer reads,

“My name is HOMER and I’m an approximately 7-year-old male Poodle Toy. I am already neutered, and I’m asking you to give me the second chance I am begging for. I might not have much time left.”

SpeakUp, if you or someone you know is interested in giving this precious pup the forever family he deserves, please call the Los Angeles County Animal Control – Carson at (310) 523-9566 and reference the shelter ID #A5030671.
