Life At The Kill Shelter Hasn’t Been Kind To Alfred The Bull Dog, But He Keeps On Fighting Anyways

When Alfred was found roaming the streets of Miami looking for scraps of food to eat, someone spotted him and called animal control who whisked him away to the Miami-Dade County Animal Shelter. Alfred was in bad shape, suffering from what appeared to be injuries consistent with those usually found on a fighting dog. Although rescuers aren’t sure what happened to him, one thing they know is that Alfred, in spite of all he has been through, is upbeat and positive that his life could possibly take a turn for the better.

A doctor working for the shelter publicly published Alfred’s wounds on Facebook writing,

“Pet presents for an evaluation of an injury – quiet, alert, responsive and euhydrated… he has multiple punctures, lacerations, scars and wounds in various stages of healing around the neck, head and ears. The wounds are infected and draining pus… Wounds were cleaned and treated with chlorohexidene. Administered Rimadyl..”

Although his kennel run at the high-kill MDAS has commenced and the clock is now ticking, shelter staff hope that Alfred can still find a home or foster just in time for the holidays. Alfred is an emotionally resilient, charming, happy go lucky pup who when dealt with lemons, is making sweet lemonade because his positive attitude has never wavered.

A Petharbor listing for Alfred reads,

“I am an unaltered male, brown and white American Bulldog. The shelter staff think I am about 1 year and 6 months old. I have been at the shelter since Dec 17, 2016.”

At this time of the year, Alfred should be cozied up to a loving human, enjoying the sweet chime of Christmas carols, as he scuffs down Christmas inspired doggie biscuits and egg nog. Instead, he lays bandaged up in confined kennel space, where he makes a cold concrete slab his only solace from the pain.

Fidonation, if you or someone you know is interested in giving Alfred the home he deserves, please contact the Miami-Dade Animal Services at (305) 884-1101 and reference the shelter ID #A1838625.
